The French Academy in Rome—Villa Medici hosts the first solo exhibition in Italy of French artist Annette Messager, one of the most radical and unconventional figures of the contemporary art scene.

The exhibition presents some of the most significant works of Messanger’s long career, some of which have been especially produced for the Villa Medici. These works testify to the eclecticism of the artist and demonstrate how she has been mediating both art historical references and elements of popular culture within her work.
