Jana Schröder: Spontacts FX
Tuesday to Friday 12pm–7pm
Jana Schröder first solo show at T293 brings together a selection of new works that further develop the artist’s interest in painting as a performative act.
These new works look like the visual records of spontaneous and liberatory gestures, which take the form of irregular lines and curls weaved onto large format canvases. They expose the artist’s unconventional and rebellious approach to painterly practice. The works are produced by tracing pencil marks with oil paint, progressively overlapping the two and altering their presence on the canvas. The result recalls doodles or hastily handwritten notes. However this spontaneous and impulsive content betrays the painstaking process that characterises Schröder’s practice.
